From time to time Christian Scientists need additional assistance in meeting
health and living needs. In Santa Clara and San Mateo counties in
California, they can turn to the Peninsula Visiting Nurse Service for someone
to come temporarily to their residence and assist them for an hour or so with Christian Science Nursing.
This allows them to remain in their homes while relying on Christian
Science for healing.
Services Provided by PVNS
General Nursing Care
- Cleansing and dressing wounds
- Preparing meals for the patient
- Instructing the family in patient care
- Reading aloud authorized Christian Science literature
- Giving baths, shampoos, manicures, pedicures
- Providing rental equipment, e.g., canes, walkers, wheelchairs,
etc.
- Providing transportation to or from a care facility
- Providing general assistance for new mothers
- Providing emergency care wherever needed, including home, school,
workplace or other locations.
Assistance for Children
- Providing nursing care for children at home
- Answering parents’ questions by telephone (when a visit is not
required)
- Serving as an emergency contact on school forms
- Providing care for or picking up a child at school
No medication is offered as a part of Christian Science nursing.
This is not a medical service.
